PUTTING AN END TO WAGE DISCRIMINATION

The issue of wage discrimination in Prasar Bharati was araised due to grant of Corporation scales to only certain cadres of employees after formation of Prasar Bharati leaving behind half of the employees. Even though all the employees are recruited only for All India Radio and Doordarshan by the various recruitment boards, grant of higher scales to only some cadres has created unrest among the employees. ADASA is the only association which was fighting against discrimination of Pay Parity for years. It has presented its views on different occasions and on different platforms.

The views of ADASA presented before the COJS committee are valuable. The formation of a platform on the name of Federation of Prasar Bharati Employees with left out cadres has given strength to the demand.

The meeting held in July 2011 at New Delhi, the left cadres have attended the meeting and agreed to fight from the common platform. ADASA along with Doordarshan Group D Union, Library Information Assistants Association, AIR Announcers Association have signed to fight from the common platform of FPBE. FPBE has taken the discrimination of Pay Parity and other issues to the notice of higher authorities.

The letters by FPBE to the head of the government and topmost beaurocrats have naturally created suffocation to the management. While certain cadres in Prasar Bharati have declared strike for their demands, FPBE along with ADASA declared the nonparticipation of strike and expressed their unconditional support to any move to strengthen Prasar Bharati.

Ultimately the government and the management have realized the line between the employees granted higher scales and the neglected lot. Now all the deliberations have reached the final stage and the government/Prasar Bharati has to take a decision to put an end to Wage Discrimination. Even though the intention of ADASA or FPBE is not to recover the benefits already granted to certain cadres, the issue should be addressed impartially.
